Agents whose customers are looking to witness a true sense of occasion should consider Norway next month as the country comes alive to celebrate ‘National Day’ on May 17.

Colourful street parades take place in every village, town and city filled with marching bands and children waving banners and flags, as Norway unites to mark the day it became a fully independent nation. The national costume, or Bunad as it is known, is worn by young and old, and youngsters enjoy a day eating hot dogs and ice-cream.

Taber Holidays is offering the chance to join in the festivities and celebrate in true Norwegian style. With daily departures throughout May, guests can enjoy a six-night, self-guided trip from ‘Oslo to Bergen By Rail’ and be in Norway for May 17.

Featuring the rail journey ‘Across the Roof of Norway’, the Bergen line crosses the Hardangervidda, Europe’s largest mountain plateau, and links east to west.  Guests have the option to combine the journey with a stay in Balestrand and Voss, and decide where they wish to spend National Day.

Prices lead in at £1,063 per person, based on two sharing, for the six-night Oslo to Bergen itinerary and include flights from Heathrow, transfers, the rail journey and breakfast accommodation.

Daily departures are available from the beginning of May.
