Surfing the internet trumps swimming in the sea for British holidaymakers

A survey of more than 1,000 people has found that when booking a holiday, access to Wi-Fi is more important than access to a swimming pool or beach.

The survey, conducted by travel price comparison website Dealchecker, found that 46% of respondents named access to Wi-Fi as a top requirement when booking a holiday, beating access to a swimming pool at 42% and a swimmer-friendly beach at 38%. But it would appear that many British holidaymakers are booking with their stomachs as 56% named “authentic local food” as another important priority.

Topping the poll was “sunshine” at 78% while other leading factors Brits consider when booking a holiday include a cheap deal (55%), spending quality time with loved ones (54%), exploration and adventure (48%) and events or attractions (30%). Almost two thirds (63%) said they enjoy going on holiday with their partner, when asked who they enjoy going away with most. The survey also revealed that among the respondents, going on a solo holiday (9%) or with friends (11%) was more enjoyable than going away with their children (7%).
