WTM 2021: Tunisia reinstates commitment to the travel trade

As 80% of holiday bookings to Tunisia are done through travel agents, the Tunisian National Tourist Office has reinstated its commitment to maintaining close relations with the UK travel trade.

At WTM, Tunisian Tourist Office stated the importance of the travel trade to Tunisia, and intends to continue, and build upon, its wide range of roadshows and training events for travel agents in the months to come. Areas of interest include spa holidays, luxury holidays, culture and history holidays, sahara desert holidays, and more. Email trade@discovertunisia.uk for upcoming events.

As UK tourists increasingly look for a 'Mediterranean style' family holiday, but with lower costs, Tunisia is presenting itself as the perfect alternative due to its year-round sun and value for money. Although offering plenty of beach holiday options, the country is also steeped in heritage and history for those looking to immerse themselves in the culture of a destination. Tunisia has a total of seven archaeological sites and many ancient landmarks.

A new 2022 aim for the tourist office is to focus on a more sustainable and community-based tourism model, and to spearhead this initiative there will be a new classification system for all hotels in the country that will be based on eco-efficiency. This will cover aspects such as energy savings and how respectful the hotel is to the environment overall. By 2024, this classification will be compulsory for all hotels in Tunisia.

Further to this, Tunisia will be offering an equivalent to Morocco's riads - the Tunisian dar hotels. Many boutique-style dars located in the medinas or historical quarters of Tunisian cities are currently being restored by residents who are keen to preserve the country's architectural heritage. These boutique hotels will also benefit local economies and communities.
