An Oscar worthy performance on the Yangtze River with Century Cruises

Century Cruises has incorporated into its itineraries a new show on the Yangtze River directed by film director Zhang Yimou, who is famous for his Oscar nominated works ?Hero? and ?House of Flying Daggers?.

In between his movies Yimou directed the open-air ?Impression Sanjie Liu? light show along the Li River, just outside the centre of Yangshuo. Set on the water and against Karst peaks, the performance involves 600 participants who take part every night, 365 days a year and was named one of the top ten evening performances to see in China.

Following this success, similarly impressive shows have been delivered by Yimou: ?The West Lake Impressions? in Hangzhou, and another in Lijiang staged against the Jade Snow Mountain and Dayan ancient town.

Now Zhang Yimou is setting up another masterful performance on the Yangtze River. Combining natural beauty and modern technology, the mass-choreographed show will be named ?Return to the Three Gorges? and will provide a unique insight into Chinese culture.

All Century Cruises ship will stop for this evening performance which is set up in the open against the Qutang Gorge on the river.

The show is approximately one hour long, with ten acts and each one themed around a famous Chinese poem. At a recent press conference the director, commented: ?This show is a new generation of my open-air production and it is very bold.?
