Austria is gearing up for a bumper 2015 with events and big anniversaries to celebrate.
The capital city of Vienna will be hosting the 60th Eurovision Song Contest after Austrian singer Conchita Wurst won the 2014 contest in Copenhagen, with the song Rise Like a Phoenix.
Although details have yet to be confirmed, the Austrian National Tourist Office will be hosting an educational for product managers to the final in Vienna on May 16. Vienna will also be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Ringstrasse, also referred to as the Ring Boulevard.
Emperor Franz Joseph officially opened Vienna's Ringstrasse on May 1, 1865 and the aim of the four-mile-long boulevard with its tram system was to link the Vienna suburbs with the centre of the city where the country’s parliament and university buildings were based.
There will be a number of exhibitions in museums around the city about the story of the Ringstrasse and there will be a dedicated tourist tram for 2015 with special guided tours.
Next year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Sound of Music, which was released back in 1965. Salzburg will be hosting the Sound of Music 50th Anniversary Festival from June 22-27, which will include performances of songs from the Oscar-winning musical and tours of famous film locations.
