LATIN American Travel Association (LATA) members will be out in force at WTM this week. Many of the 250 or so members have a presence at the show, mostly located around the Latin American section in the middle of ExCeL’s South Hall.
As examples, the Mexican Tourism Board will kick off today's show (Monday) with a visit from the Mexican Minister of Tourism, Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas, who will officially inaugurate the Mexican Pavillion LA300 in a ceremony at 12:00.
Another LATA tourist board member, PROMPERU, will be holding a Paddington Bear competition to celebrate the launch of the new Paddington film, which will be in cinemas from November 28 and is based on the Bear who famously arrived at Paddington from deepest darkest Peru. The ‘Search to find Paddington Bear’ at WTM will be a social media competition aimed at travel agents, who are invited to visit stand LA400 on Wednesday and Thursday this week to find out how to join in and be in with a chance of winning lots of Peruvian goodies.
In addition, visitors to the PROMPERU stand during ‘Pisco Sour Hour’ can enjoy a taste of Latin America with fresh pisco sour cocktails served every day between noon and 13:00. The pisco sour was invented in Peru around 1900 and is a blend of ice, lemon juice, caster sugar, egg white and aromatic bitters.
Turism Chile will also be extending hospitality to WTM visitors; on Wednesday afternoon they can enjoy a taste of Chilean cuisine and there will also be an announcement about a special artist and a collaboration between Chile and the UK.
Latin American specialist airline Air Europa, will be showcasing the Dreamliners set to join its fleet and is also giving visitors to the stand the chance to win a seven-day, all-inclusive holiday to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, staying at the Be Live Grand Marien.
Another Latin American airline, Avianca, will be at WTM celebrating its return to the UK with four flights a week to Bogota.
The Falkland Islands Tourist Board (stand LA249) will have a prize draw with the chance to win an iPad. Visitors to the stand just have to swipe their badge to be entered into the draw and there’s also a place on a fam trip to be won. Visitors can also have their photo taken with Stanley the Penguin.
