ebookers.com has found that hotels in the USA (17%) are leading the way in offering their customers the best possible experience. But it's a different story on the continent, with Spain (17%), France (15%) and Greece (10%) topping the table for giving customers their worst hotel experiences.

The research, which polled 2,000 UK adults, delved into the nation’s hotel experiences, revealing that we’re also a nation of clean freaks, with 48% of British travellers claiming lack of cleanliness as their greatest bug bear when staying at a hotel.

The study also uncovered: 

  • The nation identified comfort of the bed (20%), location (14%) and how helpful the staff is (13%) as some of the most important factors for ensuring an enjoyable hotel stay
  • A nation of smart bookers, a considerable 29% utilise hotel reviews from other travellers before making a booking
  • Men get hotter under the cover than the fairer sex with 10% stating air conditioning as an important factor, compared to 7% of women
  • When choosing a hotel, men are most driven by ensuring their stay is affordable, with 27% claiming that the price of a hotel room is the prime decider for them when booking.

The ebookers research highlights the key criteria that help make a quality hotel, such as cleanliness, location, recommendations and value for money.

Do lots of research online before you make your decision, whether it’s reading travel articles or reviews from previous customers. Also, don’t forget to share your experiences with others to help them make the most of their stay.’’
