Malaysia Airlines Tourism Malaysia WTM

Malaysia Airlines and Tourism Malaysia have embarked on a new global partnership deal to boost tourist arrivals into Malaysia.

The two-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed at WTM London 2018, witnessed by YB Datuk Mohamaddin bin Ketapi, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia and Captain Izham Ismail, Malaysia Airlines’ Group CEO. It will take effect from January 1, 2019.

The two parties will jointly work towards improving tourist traffic to Malaysia from 20 key inbound markets. They have agreed to cooperate on advertising and promotional campaigns, as well as familiarization programmes for travel trade and media, among other initiatives.

Datuk Mohamaddin bin Ketapi said: “With this partnership, international tourists will be able to experience the wonders of Malaysia from the time they board our national carrier to fly to our country. Thus, I welcome everyone to discover Malaysian hospitality and explore this unique, multi-cultural destination that is modern, with comfortable facilities, yet which has a deep-rooted cultural heritage that influences everything from our language, architecture, food, festivals and more.”

Izham Ismail commented: “Tourism Malaysia is one of our longest standing partners and we are delighted to see our close cooperation renewed and extended. The deal provides a strong platform to further grow inbound tourism to Malaysia. As the national carrier, we have the most comprehensive network within Malaysia, from metropolitan cities such as Kuala Lumpur and Penang to remote areas such as Limbang and Ba’kelalan in Sabah and Sarawak.”

For those who love nature and heritage, Malaysia has five UNESCO Heritage Sites. Melaka and Penang are UNESCO heritage cities with a long history of trade and cultural influences from all parts of the world, including the British Empire.
