Europe’s only Thomas Land attraction will launch its main 2017 season from April 1 with a new £250,000 ride, James and the Red Balloon.

Based on the ‘Thomas & Friends’ character James, the Samba Balloon ride will be located in the immersive and heavily themed Thomas Land, set in Drayton Manor Park, which recently benefitted from a £2.5million expansion.

The latest addition will lift young visitors 1.5m high with views over the park, travelling at a maximum speed of 5.5RPM and can entertain up to 500 riders an hour.

William Bryan, managing director of the park, said: “This was an exciting project involving local specialists and international partners that we hope will delight visitors. This is the next exciting step in the progression of Thomas Land and we look forward to seeing the joy on our visitors’ faces as they take to the skies in James and his Red Balloon.”
