Turkish Airlines, which flies to 108 countries and 264 destinations, has revealed where we are jetting off to this Christmas to escape the frosty UK weather and traditional festivities.
It appears UK residents are keen to head to the sunshine this year with long-haul destinations proving the most popular as we head towards the big day.
Bangkok, Cape Town and Kathmandu respectively are the most ‘booked’ locations for Christmas 2014 holidays according to the airline. Typically with temperatures likely to be soaring, these regions are exceptionally popular with people wanting to ‘break from tradition’. Operating more than 88 flights out of the UK every week, the carrier reports near on full capacity from all five UK airports right up until Christmas day.
The top ten most popular Christmas destinations are:
2. Cape Town
8. Hong Kong
9. Kuala Lumpur
Additionally, it appears there are some regional differences between us this year, according to the airline. Figures denote that the favourite destination for the Scottish this Christmas is Beijing, those flying out of Birmingham are heading for Tokyo and those travelling from Manchester are following suit with the national number one choice – Bangkok.
The carrier's regional director for London, Osman Battal, said: “2014 has been an extremely busy year for Turkish Airlines and the Christmas holiday season looks set to be even busier. We are finding that passengers are still booking for their winter getaways and the sunnier destinations are the most sought after by far. Next week will continue to see last minute bookings but we expect the main contenders to stay at the top of the list."
