Following the bushfires in parts of Tasmania last weekend, Tourism Tasmania and the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania have confirmed that the island is open for tourists.
Roads, accommodation providers, attractions, tours and restaurants in the vast majority of Tasmania remain completely unaffected and continue to welcome national and international visitors.
"It is important for those people with plans to visit Tasmania, or still holidaying here to know that we are absolutely open for business," said John Fitzgerald, Tourism Tasmania’s Chief Executive Officer. “We acknowledge that it will still be some days before the Tasman Peninsula in Southern Tasmania will be accessible and back in operation for residents and visitors alike, but across the rest of the state our tourism operators are welcoming visitors as usual during this peak holiday season.
"We cannot praise our industry highly enough for the way in which they responded to the situation last weekend. In particular we are extending our gratitude to the Emergency Services, ferry operators, airlines, car hire companies, local residents and many others who have worked incredibly hard to manage a complex situation.
