The Saint Lucia Tourist Board stand is showcasing its agent appeal at WTM 2012.   X marks the spot on stand CA325 as the Saint Lucia Tourist Board updates tour operators and agents on the island’s newest developments, visitor numbers, trade initiatives and marketing campaigns.

X Marks the Spot
Following its starring role on the X Factor as the backdrop to Tulisa’s ‘Judge’s House’ interest in booking a holiday to Saint Lucia has increased significantly with hoteliers, agents and tour operators all reporting double-digit and even triple-digit growth in enquiries and bookings. 

20th Anniversary of Saint Lucia Agent Awards
2013 will see the Saint Lucia Tourist Board celebrate the 20th anniversary of its awards which recognise the vital role that UK tour operators, agents and DMCs play in ensuring that tourism in Saint Lucia continues to grow and prosper year on year.  

Increased trade marketing spend
For next year, the tourist board will commit increased marketing spend for joint marketing activities, agent training initiatives, trade advertising and its key trade events – Saint Lucia Month & Agent Awards and Saint Lucia Showcase. 

New above-the-line campaign
During 2013 the Saint Lucia Tourist Board will focus its marketing efforts on promoting the island’s activities to the family, couples and empty-nester market, including pushing its key cultural events such as Fete La Woz, Jounen Kweyol and Carnival.  However, the tourist board says it will not lose sight of the island’s romance credentials as it was once again voted Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination 2012 at the World Travel Awards. 

Windies Tour of UK
World Cup Twenty/20 winners, the West Indies Cricket team will be touring England in 2013.  The Saint Lucia Tourist Board will be looking to leverage their winning streak, under the captaincy of Saint Lucian Darren Sammy, by focusing on marketing initiatives to dovetail with the team’s tour.

Spa promotion
Following the success of Health & Wellness 2012 which saw big name experts, including actress turned life coach Lindsay Wagner (Bionic Woman) host a variety of workshops, master-classes and wellness experiences across island, the Saint Lucia Tourist Board will again be looking to promote Saint Lucia’s wellness credentials as it focuses on the island’s 4* and 5* spas.

Sport in Black & White
In June 2013, Saint Lucia plays host to a new Caribbean initiative to promote sport in the region.  Experts from around the region and the world will take part in the conference to help promote sports tourism and best practice in the region.  FIFA and the PFA are both expected to take part and ex-Arsenal player, Paul Davis, will be on island to host intense coaching sessions to young players in Saint Lucia.

Get on Board
Louis Lewis, Director of Tourism and Nerdin St Rose, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, from the Saint Lucia Tourist Board will be on hand to meet the trade, answer questions and give updates on the latest developments, events, initiatives, visitor figures and news from on island.  UK & Europe director of marketing, Jean-Marc Flambert, will also be on stand throughout WTM discussing future marketing initiatives designed to increase the island’s visibility across the UK and Europe, as well as giving updates on the agent training programme, agent incentives and much more.

Flambert said: ‘Bookings from the UK have grown during 2012 through aggressive marketing and working closely with the industry. Arrivals up to July 2012 (7 months show a 7.5% increase year on year). WTM is the perfect opportunity for us to meet new tour operators and to build on the relationship with existing partners. 

‘This year we’d like to engage with new specialist operators, particularly those operators specialising in sports as Saint Lucia becomes the host of the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2017. Saint Lucia offers the widest variety of activities of any island in the eastern Caribbean, everything from adventure hikes to zip wiring, and we’re keen to leverage our lead position in this arena by really pushing our soft adventure, cultural and sports credentials.’
