The Dragon Trip has introduced a new Japan backpacking tour with opportunities to go off-the-beaten-track with adventure leaders and explore the destination's countryside and cultural experiences.
Travellers can see the main sights in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka on a 12-day round-trip Tokyo tour for £1,499, with opportunities to explore the countryside and its shrines, along with temples and hiking trails.
Immersive adventure activities include climbing the Takaosan Mountain, viewing Mount Fuji by pirate ship and hiking through a bamboo forest. There’s also a karate lesson, a calligraphy class, a visit to the sumo district, an anime masterclass, trips to local bath houses and karaoke.
Alex Seigel, director for the company, said: “Having taken more than a thousand people around China, we were constantly being asked if it was possible to do a similar trip in Japan. The destination is the perfect place for adventure travel, with a myriad of options for cultural discovery, hiking and sampling new cuisine.
"There seems to be an increasing trend in adventure travel for people looking for opportunities to get under the skin of a country and really discover it. We have found travellers really want to do activities that go beyond the standard tourist options and enable them to have genuine experiences.”
The price includes all transport, accommodation, guiding, plus the majority of activities, but excludes meals, drinks and flights. Two departure dates are available on August 8 and September 12.
