Riviera Travel has launched a competition for travel agents to be given the title of ‘Godmother’ to one of the company’s two new five-star river cruise ships, the MS Thomas Hardy and the MS Emily Brontë.

The Godmothers will be flown out to the christening ceremony of the two ships in the Netherlands to carry out the time-honoured tradition of smashing champagne bottles against the ships’ hulls, before enjoying a three-course meal and entertainment on board.

Ben Hitchcock, marketing director for the operator, said: “This is in fact the first time we have officially christened our river cruise ships and given them their all-important Godmothers. Our travel agents are such a vital part of our business that we felt it was only right to honour them by making them the ships’ first Godmothers.”

Travel agents can enter the competition by answering the question: ‘Which is the third new river cruise ship to be announced for this year by Riviera Travel, in addition to the Thomas Hardy and the Emily Brontë?’

Entries must be emailed by the close of the day over to agencysales@rivieratravel.co.uk
