River Cruise Convention returns to Amsterdam

Amsterdam is to host the fourth CLIA UK & Ireland River Cruise Convention with travel agents able to take advantage of at least six ship visits. The Convention, which is expected to attract 300 delegates, will take place on November 16 and 17.

The conference and trade fair will take place on the Sunday followed by ship visits on Monday, with tours confirmed so far on ships offered by Uniworld, A-Rosa, Amadeus River Cruises, AmaWaterways and Tauck.

More British passengers than ever before are taking a holiday on Europe?s waterways, with 2013 seeing a rise of 22% in the number of passengers choosing a river cruise taking the total number to almost 110,000 passengers.

The growth on Europe?s rivers has been underpinned by a significant increase in the number of new cruise ships.? The 260 river cruise ships currently sailing the European waterways will be supplemented by a further 24 presently on order ? an increase of 12%.?

CLIA's UK & Ireland director, Andy Harmer, said: "With a record number of British passengers taking a river holiday, more travel agents than ever are becoming interested in selling river cruises. There is no other event in the world that offers agents the opportunity to see firsthand so many different styles of river ship and to hear from key speakers on the latest industry developments. We have recently welcomed into membership an additional three river cruise companies ? A-Rosa, American Queen Steamboat Company and Mekong Waterways ? bringing the total number of river cruise companies in CLIA membership to 15." ?
