The Nicaraguan Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, through the Nicaraguan Tourism Board, INTUR, has launched the campaign ‘I like you just as you are’, designed to encourage those who visit Nicaragua to get to know its authentic side and fall in love with the country as it really is.

Three key areas of Nicaragua will be promoted: its culture, natural scenery and the country’s people.

The promotional activity is on trend with what is currently being seen across the travel industry of tourists seeking unique local experiences. The campaign highlights the many opportunities holidaymakers have in Nicaragua to get to know the real people, to see how families and groups of friends live, taste the local food, and to go to the places locals’ visit and do daily activities with them. Tourists can learn and practice the language, pick up the local slang and visit sites as if they were inhabitants of the country.

Key segments of the tourism market will be sun and spacious beaches; adventure and activity tourism; nature tourism; culture and identity tourism; rural community tourism; agritourism; ecotourism and gastronomic tourism. There will also be promotion of business travel, health and wellness, cruises and sailing holidays.

The services to be promoted in Nicaragua will be by small and medium sized tourism companies, with the intention of energising the country’s economy and diversifying the market segments to which Nicaragua is promoted. Messages will be delivered across a variety of platforms by different media organisations along with alliances with transport businesses, cooperatives and service providers.

In 2017 the destination received 1,787,260 tourists, representing an 18.8% year on year increase. From this figure, Nicaragua welcomed 17,389 tourists from the UK, a 2.8% year on year increase.
