May half term at the Treasure Houses of England

The Treasure Houses of England, a series of fine stately homes, castles and palaces, have a wealth of activities to keep all the family amused throughout the May half term.

 

 

 

 

From 28th May to 5th June, clients can enjoy Giant Scalextric & Outdoor Games at Beaulieu. Truckmania celebrates the super-sized world of trucks on Sunday 29th and Bank Holiday Monday 30th May. Two monster trucks will demonstrate their power in displays, as Big Pete and the Grim Reaper crush cars and a caravan. The Beaulieu Truck Pull puts strength to the test, Truck Agility challenges drivers? skills and Mini Truck World recreates the world of road haulage in miniature with remote-controlled trucks. The British Army will also return for this year?s event with a display of modern combat trucks. There will be a medieval theme to the rest of the week from Tuesday 2nd June, with falconry in the Cloister, archery in the nave and Brother William in the Abbey. The Surrey Sculpture trail also returns for the summer from 25th May.

 

Enjoy the Blenheim Palace Food Festival from 28 ? 30 May, with fun for all the family. Discover regional food and drink from 120 stallholders, including artisan bakes, craft brews, gourmet burgers, international cuisine, traditional ices and handmade sweets. There will be plenty of interactive food events and tastings to appeal to the whole family and the Demonstration Theatre will have a packed programme of events including demonstrations from Great British Bake Off 2015 finalist Tamal Ray and MasterChef 2015 finalist Tony Rodd. Children?s entertainment such as a roaming storyteller, garden games, face painting and vintage rides will be on offer, and visitors can relax whilst enjoying the festivities and beautiful festival setting in traditional hay baled picnic areas.

 

Head to Burghley?s Sculpture Garden Classroom this half term to have a go at making your own Lollipop Friend. Aimed at 5-10 year olds (or younger with adult assistance!) these craft activities are fun drop in workshops as a free addition to your day at Burghley. Plus enjoy the Living Heritage Game and Country Show from 29th ? 30th May. A large Country Fair with four main arenas presenting country sports & pursuits at their very best. Try out lots of country sports Clayshoot, Airguns, Archery, Fishing and a large selection of dog events. Enjoy all the other show features, the Craft Village, Food Show with chef demonstrations, Falconry, Vintage Vehicles, or relax in the Food Courts.

 

Discover spring walks this May Half Term and pack a picnic to enjoy the best of Castle Howard. Enjoy your picnic on the south lawn with the magnificent house behind or head to the lakeside picnic tables before taking a boat trip on the Great Lake and running wild on the adventure playground. 

 

Don?t miss the May Half Term Water Spectacular at Chatsworth. From 28 May - 5 June Chatsworth are celebrating the waterworks in the garden. Join one of the free garden tours starting at the Cascade every hour from 11.30am - 3.30pm. Each tour includes a short talk about the water feature as it is turned on and includes the Cascade, Willow tree fountain, Ring pond and the Emperor fountain which will be played at its full height. The Stickyard will also be a hub of activity over the bank holiday weekend with lots of fun wild art activities for all the family to enjoy.

 

From 28 ? 30 May the Great British Food Festival is back at Harewood. The recipe for the weekend? A good helping of local and artisan producers, a big serving of stunning hot food, add a dash of real ale and wine bars, kids cookery lessons, lots of children?s activities and top chef demos, stir in a cake competition and the popular Men V?s Food, with lashings of excellent live music and mix together to make a lovely foodie family day out!

 

A visit to the exciting Bloody Hollow adventure play area at Hatfield House is a must this half term. With its 2.5 metre high model of Hatfield House dominating the central area, Bloody Hollow has a great range of play items for all ages of children ranging from a rope bridge, aerial runway and tree house, plus all the favourites such as swings, springies and a see-saw.

 

Enjoy a half term packed with activities at Holkham Hall from 29 May ? 5 June. From Spring Tours of the Private Gardens and Tractor Trailer Tours  to Park Discovery Days where you can try your hand at pond dipping. There is fun for all the family on offer. Holkham will be supporting the nationwide event ?Open Farm Sunday? - a chance to see  the animals from the farm, the modern farm machinery or chat to the farming team to learn about their valuable work on this great agricultural estate. With plenty of fun, quizzes and craft activities for younger visitors, the whole family will enjoy a wonderful day out.

 

Discover the Grand Medieval Joust at Leeds Castle this May Half Term. From 28 - 30 May see fully armoured jousters battling it out in a real competition. Enjoy living history encampments, medieval music and mounted skill at arms displays. Feel how heavy a real knight?s armour would have been, with the chance to dress up and try on chainmail, gauntlets, breastplates and helmets!
