After announcing Malta’s first Civil Unions Fair earlier this year, the Phoenicia Hotel in Valletta reports that it has been 'overwhelmed by demand' from the UK and other countries, highlighting the appeal of the island for same-sex couples.
Malta is already increasing its profile as an overseas wedding destination, with hotels such as the Phoenicia citing a 10% year-on-year rise from UK couples, but the Civil Unions Fair, which follows the change in the law last year, has elicited a huge response, with 50% of stands being sold within just one week of announcing the event.
The fair, catering exclusively for the LGBT market, will take place in the Phoenicia’s historic Grand Ballroom on October 10 and 11, with a host of local suppliers offering specialist products and services.
Prices for civil union packages at the hotel start from £825 for a small, stylish event for ten guests to £3,860 for an elaborate, full-service package for up to 30 guests.
Agents receive 5% commission on civil union packages for 2016 if booked by December 31.
