Against the backdrop of India's 70th anniversary of Independence, Wendy Wu Tours has confirmed that the country is becoming one of its fastest growing destinations for 2017.
The operator reports that departures to India this year are currently up 150% year-on-year and while its most popular trip remains the classic nine-day ‘Golden Triangle tour’, visiting Delhi, the Taj Mahal and Jaipur, The BBC One reality show ‘The Real Marigold Hotel’ has contributed to a spike in demand over the past two months for Kerala.
Demand for the operator’s ‘Kerala and Southern Highlights’ has increased 100% for bookings this year. The operator also seen a growth in the trend towards slightly longer tours.
Joe Sutcliffe, commercial director of the company, said: “We always felt India was on the cusp of something big and the various events and TV shows have certainly fuelled the desire for people to travel there. We have certainly seen significant growth for India in the first two months of this year. As well as the iconic Taj Mahal, India has some incredible experiences to offer from the relaxed, far south to the colour and palaces of Rajasthan. The fact that people are now spending more time in the country means they can experience even more of its unique charms.”
