Half of Brits book holidays in first week of January

Nearly a quarter (23%) of UK consumers agree that booking a holiday would make them most happy in January, with 44% booking days off work within the first week of returning to work in 2017, according to new research by Travel Counsellors.

The survey polled a group of UK consumers on their January booking habits, with almost half of people stating that they submitted holiday forms for 2017 before January 6.

Within this figure, more than a third (34%) of people have already booked four to five working days off, and 30% of respondents said that they have already secured ten or more days for 2017. The majority (42%) will take these days between March and August, with a further 26% of people planning even further ahead, booking these holidays in September or beyond.

The survey also probed consumers on what they are looking for in their next break, with 32% of people choosing ultimate relaxation and 37% of people stating they would like to go somewhere hot, such as Sydney or Cape Verde.

The majority (42%) agreed that experiencing new cultures makes them happiest when travelling, which came above spending time with family or friends (27%) and taking advantage of better weather (15%).
