Golden Eagle Luxury Trains has introduced a new ‘Grand Tour of Russia’ for summer 2017.

Combining a river cruise on the Volga Dream and a passage along the famed Trans-Siberian railway aboard the Golden Eagle, this 26-day voyage brings together two of Russia’s most luxurious means of travel.

The holiday begins in St Petersburg with a walking tour, museum visits and a trip to Peterhof before embarking on a six-night cruise, sailing the Russian waterways on the MS Volga Dream.

During their journey guests will dock in the ancient trading town of Uglich to enjoy a choral concert; visit Yaroslavl, one of Russia’s oldest cities, for a costumed reception at the Governor’s house; discover Lake Onega with its many rivers and islands; and step ashore from Lake Ladoga to explore the wooden village of Mandrogi. Special experiences onboard include a Russian cooking class and a piano concert.

Disembarking in Moscow guests will spend the next few days sightseeing, ahead of the next leg of the journey on the Golden Eagle.

The 12-night Trans-Siberian Express route crosses Russia’s vast interior, traversing 11,000kms as it weaves its way from east to west, from Moscow to Vladivostok. Some of the highlights during this railway journey include: the picturesque city of Kazan; sipping champagne with one foot in Europe and the other in Asia at Yekaterinburg; Irkutsk - the ‘Paris of Siberia’; being hauled by a steam locomotive alongside Lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world; and dipping into Mongolia to visit its capital city, Ulaan Baatar, and a traditional Ger in the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park.

Prices for this journey start from £14,195, including seven-night bed-and-breakfast hotel accommodation with lunches (three in St Petersburg, three in Moscow and one in Vladivostok), six nights’ full-board on the Volga Dream in a Standard Cabin, and 12 nights’ full-board on the Golden Eagle on Silver Class. The trip departs on July 12, 2017.

Also launching next summer and new from the operator is tour through Russia towards the Arctic, called the ‘Land of the Midnight Sun’. Prices for this rail adventure are from £7,995, including two nights in Moscow, five nights on the Golden Eagle, two nights in Kirkenes, two nights in St Petersburg and all meals, departing June 15, 2017.
