Gambia Bird has made its maiden flight to Banjul International Airport.

The A319-100, which is branded with the national colours of The Gambia, took off from Berlin carrying its first passengers last week, along with a delegation of key Gambia Bird personnel and accompanying VIPs.

Karsten Balke, the airline's chief operation officer, said: “Nigeria has been part of our plans since the beginning, and we are looking forward to welcoming Lagos as a Gambia Bird destination airport in the New Year. In addition to this, we expect to see several new African countries join the network in January 2013, including Burkina Faso, Cameroon and the Ivory Coast.”
