Elsinore in Denmark is celebrating the anniversary of Shakespeare with a series of special cultural tours.

In August visitors can experience the annual Shakespeare Festival with open-air performances in the royal courtyard of Kronborg Castle. The festival marks the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare with a series of theatre, cinema and concert performances.

From this month a range of cultural holiday packages to Elsinore have been launched.

In one package, visitors will fly into Copenhagen and venture north on a short train journey to the seaside retreat of Marienlyst, one of Royal North Sealand’s most popular beach hotels and closely situated to the UNESCO listed Kronborg Castle, as well as the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Package prices lead in at £172 per person which includes a discount for two seats for the Hamlet performance, entrance tickets for the Shakespeare Festival at Kronborg Castle, one overnight stay including breakfast for two people in one double room, a three-course dinner for two (excluding drinks), free entrance to the casino at Marienlyst, entrance tickets for Kronborg Castle and free entrance to the Cultural Harbour of Kronborg.

Alternatively, guests can opt to stay at the Art Hotel Konventum, with prices starting from £85 for two in a double room. The price includes a discount voucher for two seats plus entrance tickets to the Shakespeare Festival at Kronborg Castle, an overnight stay with breakfast and two entrance tickets to the castle.

Meanwhile, a third package explores the royal gardens and living history in Royal North Sealand. The tour is available seven days a week from May to September, allowing visitors to enjoy the garden season throughout the year and includes two nights at Fredensborg Store Kro (Inn), a three-course dinner excluding drinks, one boat trip for two at Esrum Lake including a picnic basket, entry tickets for the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and free entrance to Fredriksborg Castle Royal Garden. Prices are from £460 for two people for two days' accommodation in a double room.
