Explore has extended its family holiday programme for 2018 with new Lite trips in Europe and a selection of adventures for families with older children.

Designed with intrepid families in mind and perhaps serving as a taster for teenagers considering a gap year trip, the Family Beyond journeys combine regional highlights with lesser-known destinations and some surprises along the way.

The six Family Beyond trips launched for 2018 are ‘Ecuador and the Gapalagos Adventure’, ‘Indonesia Highlights’, ‘Saigon to Bangkok Explorer’, ‘Vietnam Encompassed’, ‘Namibia Adventure’, and ‘Okavango Adventure’. As an example, ‘Indonesian Highlights’ showcases the islands of Flores, Komodo, Bali and Lombok.

Guests will venture past volcanoes and jungles, walk through rice paddy fields and ancient tribal villages and spend three days on the waters off the Komodo archipelago, in search of the Komodo dragon. The adventure ends on the beaches of Lombok, with the option to extend to the tropical Gili Islands. This trip starts from £2,499 per adult and £2,015 per child which includes nine nights of standard hotel accommodation, two nights simple village house, two nights simple boat accommodation, some meals and the services of a tour leader.

Alternatively the new Lite ‘French Alps Adventure’ will see families stay for seven nights at the Chalet Hotel Rosset in the heart of Tignes-le-Lac. Guests can choose from activities such as hiking on a glacier, white water rafting on the Isere River, learning survival skills in the Vanoise National Park, rafting and adventure rope park activities. Departures in July and August 2018 start from £779 per adult or £725 per child including flights, accommodation, most meals, transfers and a tour leader.
