Embratur rides on Olympic Success and exposure into 2017

Brazil attracted a record-breaking 541,000 tourists during Rio 2016. The country is now preparing to turn the wide-spread exposure achieved during the Olympics into a legacy to improve incoming tourism in the country.

An ongoing and important area that will be a focus for the tourist board is responsible tourism. The destination has one of the greatest ecosystems in the world and offers tourists a variety of environmentally friendly ways to travel around the country.

According to the index of the World Economic Forum, released in 2015, Brazil is number one among 141 countries in terms of ?natural resources?. This pillar takes into account the available natural resources, in addition to the development of outdoor tourism activities. The tourist board recently presented at WTM the strong principles of environmental sustainability the country strives to follow, and reinforced that looking after the country's natural reserves, wildlife and rainforests remains a priority.

This year, besides the normal schedule of the fair, it also exhibited Brazilian handicrafts representing the states of Acre, Alagoas, Bahia, Goi?s and Par?m and Brazilian handicrafts is a segment of the economy whose growth has a high potential for generating work, employment and income. The initiative is a partnership between Embratur and the Government Secretary of the Presidency - SEGOV. The agreement was recently signed between both parties and aims to promote and disseminate the cultural richness of Brazil through crafts. The idea is to enhance the artists' profiles and generate foreign tourists' curiosity about the local culture, generating further interest for different regions of the country.
