Dubai emerges as top romantic getaway for Gold Medal Valentines

With the most romantic day of the year now here, Gold Medal has unveiled its top Valentine?s Day hotspots for travel-lovers.

Looking at trends over the last few years, Dubai has proven to be the operator?s most popular romantic getaway, coming top of the list for Valentine?s departures every year since 2010.

Continuing the list?s city break theme, it seems the long-term ?I love New York? campaign rings true, with the Big Apple consistently appearing in the top three Valentine?s destinations over the same period. However, it seems travellers are increasingly willing to travel further for an indulgent escape; this year New Zealand?s North Island has jumped into second place thanks to a 34% increase in forward bookings, overtaking Florida and pushing New York into fourth position.

Other destinations that holidaymakers are proving increasingly passionate about at this time of year include South Africa and Mexico, both up 81% to place them in top ten spots.

Nick Hughes, sales director dnata Travel B2B Europe, said: ?When it comes to romantic getaways, it?s clear many customers love to buck the norm of what constitutes a traditional city break and are happy to travel further afield. With Valentine?s Day falling midweek this year, our forward bookings indicate that many couples are ditching short haul mini breaks and combining their February 14 celebrations with a more memorable week-long escape.?
