Colonial Malaysia exploration from Saga

Saga?s new Colonial Malaysia escorted tour takes visitors from Kuala Lumpur on a journey to see animal conservation at work, historic tea plantations and the city of Penang.

Arriving in Kuala Lumpur, guests will spend three nights at the Renaissance Hotel with sightseeing tours to the Petronas Towers, Parliament House, Chinatown and New King's Palace. Next is a visit to the National Elephant Conservation Centre in Kuala Gandah to learn about the organisation?s rescue work, before heading south to the state of Malacca to see the Sultan's Well, the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple and Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum with a two-night stay at the Equatorial Hotel.

After a boat ride along the Malacca River, guests travel to Rawang for a train journey to the city of Ipoh, where British and Chinese architecture reflects its past association with tin mining.

Following an overnight stay at the Weil Hotel, the tour then continues to the Cameron Highlands, the most extensive of Malaysia?s hill stations where guests can see how tea is grown, harvested and processed. The tour then moves to the Strawberry Park Resort for an overnight stay, before a drive to the fishing village of Kuala Sepetang to take a boat to Orang-Utan Island, in Semanggol. Here conservationists study the orang-utan and, after an introduction to the primates, visitors can take an enclosed walk and observe them in their natural habitat.

The tour ends in Penang with a three-night stay in the Eastern & Oriental Hotel, with sightseeing tours to the Penang State Museum and Reclining Buddha Temple, as well as Penang Hill. The 12-night tour costs ?1,999 departing from Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur on September 18, October 9 and 23 and November 6 and 13, and next year on January 22, February 19 and March 5 and 26.

It includes a VIP door-to-door travel service, flights, transfers, 16 meals (ten breakfasts, four lunches and two dinners), porterage, a tour manager, optional travel insurance and additional cancellation rights or a discount if not required. To extend the tour guests can choose from three nights, pre- or post- tour at the Renaissance Hotel in Kuala Lumpur for ?2,318 or three nights post-tour at the Lone Pine Hotel on Batu Ferringhi Beach, Penang.
