The Cape Verde Experience has announced the addition of a Tall Ship Tour to its island-hopping options for winter 2012/13.
The 50m three-masted topsail schooner ‘Oosterschelde’ was built in the Netherlands in 1918 and its Cape Verde tours will provide passengers with the opportunity to view the archipelago while mixing a conventional sailing holiday with a voyage of discovery.
Departing from the island of Sal and visiting at least six islands during its travels, the itinerary comprises 11 nights on the ship and three nights in a Sal hotel. Landing places include Santiago, São Vicente, Santo Antão, São Nicolau and Boa Vista. Excursions with local guides are arranged on most islands and key attractions include a UNESCO World Heritage site, banana plantations, a volcanic crater, the remainder of a primeval forest in the mountains and Cape Verde’s cultural capital Mindelo.
Scheduled tour dates are December 1, 12 and 23 and January 3, 14 and 25 and February 5, 2013. Prices lead in at £2,387 per person and include flights from Gatwick to Sal, taxes, transfers, 11 nights’ accommodation on a full-board basis on the ship plus three nights' breakfast hotel accommodation.
