British Virgin Islands hosts #BVISTRONG fundraiser

The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board hosted the #BVISTRONG fundraiser at The Roof Gardens, Kensington this week to raise funds in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

The event played host to travel partners - such as Caribtours, The Moorings and Sunsail as well as Sam Branson (pictured with the tourism board?s Ginny Hawksley) - and raised more than ?57,775 for the relief funds through ticket sales, a raffle with prizes donated from friends of the BVI and an auction led by Caribtours? managing director, Paul Cleary.

Hurricane Irma caused widespread damage in September 2017, leaving a trail of destruction for residents including no electricity and running water for several days. Classified as a Category 5 Hurricane, Irma devastated the islands including Tortola, Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda. Presentations and speeches took place at the event highlighting the aftermath of Hurricane Irma as well as the resilience of the BVI community.

One Love BVI, the charitable non-profit organisation which supports the long-term recovery of the BVIs in response to Hurricane Irma was also in attendance.

A dedicated BVI Recovery Fund has also been set up for anyone who wishes to help and donate at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bvi-touristboardhurricaneirma
