Avalon Waterways has launched its Asia programme for 2015 featuring the Irrawaddy River in Myanmar for the first time with a newly designed Suite Ship, the ‘Avalon Myanmar’ and a sister ship, the ‘Avalon Siem Reap’ which will sail the River Mekong through Vietnam & Cambodia.

The company is offering a 15-day ‘Golden Myanmar & the Irrawaddy’ holiday including a ten-night cruise on the Irrawaddy River combined with a three-night Yangon city stay. The cruise is available on a north or southbound itinerary with the option of pre/post cruise hotel stays in Yangon, Bangkok or the scenic lake area of Inle. Highlights of the new cruise include the capital city of Yangon, the ancient city of Bagan, the U Bein Bridge at Amarapura, the sights of Mandalay, Bhamo, the religious site of Sagaing as well as the Islands of Kyun Daw.

Prices lead in at £5,369 per person.

Built by local craftsmen, both new Suite Ships have a passenger capacity of 36 and are specially designed to provide the best way of experiencing the unique sights and landscapes from the river. All staterooms offer 245sq.ft (larger than the European Avalon Suite Ships) and feature a wall-to-wall panoramic window measuring 14ft wide which opens to transform the living space into a large open air balcony, a large bathroom, spacious storage space and Comfort Collection beds.
Both smaller ships have been designed so that they can cruise to places currently not available with other cruise companies. Myanar will sail on the Upper Northern Irrawaddy and Siem Reap will be able to sail into Ho Chi Minh City harbour.
A 16-day ‘Fascinating Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekong’ itinerary provides an insight into the culture, scenery and history of the area. The tour includes two nights at InterContinental Asiana Saigon Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, a seven-night cruise on the River Mekong on Avalon Angkor and two nights at Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa Hotel in Siem Reap. Highlights of the cruise, which leads in at £3,675, include Ho Chi Minh City and Siem Reap guided city sightseeing, Cu Chi Tunnels, Cai Be, Phnom Penh and the Temples of Angkor.

Early bookers can take advantage of £600 off per couple on cruise bookings made from the Asia programme before September 30.
