KEXP and Port of Seattle join hands to boost Seattle tourism

The Port of Seattle has partnered with KEXP, a radio station based in the US city, to create a special playlist highlighting the Sound of Seattle.

The station, which has been on the air since 1972, has played a significant role in giving exposure to the local music scene and contributing to the creation of the iconic Seattle Sound of grunge rock during the '80s and '90s. For agents looking for inspiration to sell trips to Seattle and the north-east of America, there are plenty of unique experiences to share with clients, especially those who prefer cultural experiences.

Clients interested in paying tribute to Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain can visit their memorials at Greenwood Cemetery and Viretta Park, respectively. Music fans can also experience the headquarters of recording studios such as Sub Pop and London Bridge Studios, which produced albums for Nirvana, Mudhoney and Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.

The Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) is another interesting place for music buffs who are passionate about the music and its history. You can find exhibitions on the city?s musical history, such as Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses; Hendrix: Wild Blue Angel; a famous guitar gallery and the interactive sound lab. There are also plenty of historic record stores for nostalgia fans, such as Silver Platters, Holy Cow Records, Easy Street Records and Jive Time.
