Slovenia is the new rising star on the world’s culinary map. A gourmet story combining the Alps, the Mediterranean, and the Pannonian Plains, where delicious local ingredients and a rich culinary tradition are at the heart of Slovenian Haute Cuisine. The endless creativity of world-renowned chefs plays a central role in making Slovenia one of the best foodie destinations. “Without a top quality ingredients, you cannot create a world-class plate,” Janez Bratovz and Ana Ros, the most famous Slovenian chefs, are convinced.

The culinary story would not be complete without a glass of world-class Slovenian wine that complements the authenticity of flavours and aromas. Rich wine growing tradition is mostly based around three wine growing regions, Primorska, Podravje and Posavje. Slovenian wine making tradition goes back centuries; in fact, the second largest city, Maribor, is home to the oldest vine in the world that still produces grapes even after 400 years. This tradition has been carried on by new generation of private winemakers, combining tradition with new methods and technology to create their own unique styles that rival the best winemakers in the world and which have been awarded prestigious international rewards.

Due to the combination of diverse geographical terrain, soil and climate, Slovenian wines are ranked among the best in the world for quality. Slovenian wines are relatively rare, with only a small percentage exported across the globe. This is only one of the many reasons that visitors to Slovenia can enjoy the experience of an authentic green paradise on earth – and no paradise would be complete without the superb gastronomy that makes Slovenia a 5-star destination for boutique travel experiences.
